Alexander Vasiljev

Award winning photographer Alexander (Sasha) Vasiljev is director of the Nature & Photography Tours, a boutique tour company specializing in nature, culture and photography travel.

Vasiljev began studying fine art, but ultimately received his degree in biology with a major in botany. He went on to curate major tropical orchid collections in Ukraine, Russia and the United States. While living in Moscow, he had the opportunity to study photography under the mentorship of distinguished Russian landscape photographer, Boris Mashkov.

Since immigrating to the United States in 1993, Vasiljev’s work has been exhibited in galleries and is part of many private collections worldwide. Several of his photographs are now part of the permanent collection at the Embassy of the Republic of Costa Rica in Washington, DC. His work has also been exhibited at the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History and has been published in the following magazines: Audubon, Home & Décor (Thailand), Nature’s Best Photography, Photo+ (S. Korea), Fine Gardening, Washingtonian, Orchids, Ecuador Infinito (Ecuador).

 

Vasiljev works in conceptual, fine art, portraiture, wildlife and commercial photography.  Vasiljev taught classes and workshops in Washington DC.  He also served on the faculty of The Washington School of Photography and Washington Studio School.  After living near Dupont Circle in Washington DC for over fifteen years he has relocated to St Petersburg Florida
